Introduction

This site is dedicated to one of the best games in the history of computer games. It is the year 2004 as you read these lines. I will try to explain why a twenty-one-year-old computer game deserves to be played even in the new millennium. Today's computers have far superior graphics and sound capabilities - but M.U.L.E. doesn't depend on these sizzles. Today's strategy games come with manuals containing more than a hundred pages. The gaming rules of M.U.L.E. are simple, but nevertheless the game itself is complex. Moreover, every game is a new challenge, because every game is different - even if you play M.U.L.E. over and over again, you'll never say "Oh, I've had that before".
Bottom line: M.U.L.E. is one of the best multiplayer games ever written. The story is as simple (four settlers reach the planet Irata and have to colonize it) as the gameplay seems to be at first sight. But the more you play it, the more you will get addicted to it, especially if you have friends with whom you can play.
It can't be explained in words why M.U.L.E. is so fascinating... You have to experience it yourself. This site will help you to make your first steps with the game if you're a newbie, and it also offers a wealth of information and goodies for the experienced M.U.L.E. players.

Breaking News! ;-)

Since a few weeks, there is an emulator out there which allows us to play the Atari version of M.U.L.E. online - with four players! This is a dream come true for every M.U.L.E. player who likes to play the game with as many real players as possible, but doesn't have the possibilities anymore at home.

Until I find some time in updating this website, please head over to http://atarimule.neotechgaming.com in order to participate! By the way, my nickname there is Goethe. See you around!

    Original MULE Manual

I finally got around to scanning the original M.U.L.E. manual which was shipped with the game. Of course there are already HTML-ized versions out there, but some folks might want to print out the original layout instead. Say, as a nice Christmas gift to one of your friends? :-)  Anyhow click on the image above to download the archive. It's 300dpi scans, 20 pages, JPEG format, about 15 MB in total. Enjoy! Any a Thank You goes to Space Horse for urging me to scan it!

Read the "Breaking News"... Apart from that, I'm afraid to say that the statement from last year still stands. I seriously lack time in maintaining this site, though I have a few neat ideas what to do about that. I'm looking forward to the winter holiday season, hopefully I'll be able to realise at least some of them. Stay tuned!

This is just to let you know that I haven't abandoned this site. Lots of new, interesting material got into my hands since the last update, and lots of new stories are to tell... Please bear with me until my vacation time in mid-December to bring all this online; before that, I'm just too busy with my job.

Finally, there's an update to this site again. Though I couldn't manage to design a complete new site layout or add all the information (especially about Son of M.U.L.E.) I had wanted, at least I could update some of the major site sections today with new content. See for yourselves. :-)

Here is a complete list of today's additions:

    • Added some information about the Sega Genesis/MegaDrive version of M.U.L.E. ("Son of M.U.L.E.") to the Missing in Action page
    • All download links are fixed, including the original M.U.L.E. documentation
    • Added download: M.U.L.E. theme remix by The Amplifier (MP3)
    • Added download: M.U.L.E. theme remix by The Plough (MP3)
    • Added download: M.U.L.E. theme "Aerobics in the jungle" mix by Mahoney (MP3)
    • Added download: M.U.L.E. theme remix by Seth (MP3)
    • Updated M.U.L.E. tournament list with tournaments played in Austin and Mannheim/Heidelberg

Also, I would like to mention that Gilligames have finally released the retail version of Space HoRSE, which is definitely the best M.U.L.E. clone so far. Be sure to check out the Space HoRSE homepage at Gilligames and download the 30MB demo to find out for yourselves! The demo is restricted to playing five instead of 12 turns and has less species to choose from, but apart from that is fully playable. This is a must download for all M.U.L.E. fans!

On sidenote... This website will celebrate its Fifth Anniversary in three days. One of the reasons why I had to do an update after all. :-)

See you again in mid-September, with lots of new information and a new site layout. Until then, happy MULEing!.
