February 03, 2002Well, some of you might have thought that I have abandoned this site, so I guess I need to clear this up. I've just been very busy the last weeks and months and hence couldn't dedicate as much time to this site as I would've liked to. But I'm always on the lookout for happenings in the world of our favourite game - meanwhile, "fresh" M.U.L.E.-related content has piled up so high on my harddisk that I simply cannot postpone a site update any longer. So, this site definitively will be updated until the end of next weekend (February 10th) - and you can certainly look forward to it. Lots more stuff than what I mentioned last August will be online then. To make waiting even worse for you, here's a little teaser:

August 23, 2001This is yet again not a regular site update, just a notification. ;-) The files in the download are available again. I'm still completely tied up with writing my diploma thesis paper and job search, which leaves me little time for working on this site despite lots of happenings in the world of M.U.L.E. Some teasers for the next update: *** I've been able to play the lost Sega Genesis version of M.U.L.E. recently; screenshots, music excerpts and a detailed review to come *** A new M.U.L.E. clone called Space Ho.R.S.E., made by Gilligames, is in its final stages of completion and looks VERY good. You can find some screenshots over at David Tucker's site. *** I've been in contact with several people who were involved with M.U.L.E. development, revealing LOTS of insights you'll only read at this place. *** more music files to come *** some more info on IBM PCjr version *** and lots of other tidbits, for example a complete new site layout and the emulator pages I'm promising for ages. Well, look forward to the next update, probably seen in late October!
July 6, 2001This is not a regular site update, just a notification. Currently, all files in the download area are not available. I'm already looking for a new server to store them on. However, I can't promise when they'll be available again, because I'm currently very busy with writing my diploma thesis. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I'm currently staying in Austin (TX) in the USA until September 20. If anyone in the vicinity is open for a friendly M.U.L.E. tournament, feel free to contact me !

I know I promised a "larger" update of
the "World of M.U.L.E." quite some time ago, with interesting news on the
"lost" Genesis and IBM PCjr versions, as well as on X*M.U.L.E. and the boardgame
adaptions. All I can say is that the update is still in the works and I'll
let you know as soon as I've finished it. :-)
February 02, 2001Hello there, and welcome to the new millennium! It's been quite a while since I last updated this site, but unfortunately there's not much new to report, expect for some new tournaments we have played. Congratulations go to Tobias Bauer, who achieved new all-time highscores both for himself (51402) and the colony (134341). Also, Sascha Michalke pushed up his personal highscore to 26308.
Yesterday, David Tucker of The M*U*L*E* Web has made an interesting proposal - Dave suggests a gathering of M.U.L.E. fans someplace, where we could all play some tournaments and swap stories. If you like the idea (I certainly do!), please visit his site and send him an email! Talking about tournament games... I currently live in Winchester (UK), where I'm working for IBM (as a part of my CS studies) until March 24th. If anyone living in the vicinity would like to play some tournaments, just send me an email !
Finally, I'd like to make two announcements , more information will follow later. Two new M.U.L.E. clones are currently in development:
Well, the first one is not exactly a clone. It is a portation of the C64 version of M.U.L.E. to Microsoft's DirectX environment. I have planned two versions of it: One for Windows (95/98/ME/2000), and one for the Sega Dreamcast. Both versions will support netplay via TCP/IP (in other words: internet M.U.L.E. tournaments will become possible) and the use of four controllers at once, like in the original Atari 800 version of M.U.L.E. (the Dreamcast with its four built-in controller ports is predestined for that). The project is still in very early stages, and unfortunately I can't continue working on it while I'm here in England. Nevertheless I will set up a page dedicated to the project, currently named X*M.U.L.E. , soon.
The second project boldly goes where no M.U.L.E. project has gone before ;-). My friend Tobias Bauer and myself are currently working on a boardgame adaption of M.U.L.E. - do I see your jaws dropping now? Whatever may be the reason for this (disgust or drooling), you'll find more information about it here soon, I will also set up a dedicated page.
In the meantime, I'd like to get some feedback on these two announcements - what do you think of X*M.U.L.E. and the M.U.L.E. boardgame? Please send me an email !
26th of November 2000Today, it's only a very small update - I updated this links page with the new URL of the Planeteer! project (though nothing new is to report on the project itself), added a new strategy sent by Darxi and rearranged the layout of this index page a little bit - I hope you like it. Beside that, I can only repeat the last sentence from the last site update: Sorry I didn't finish the emulation page yet - but it will be done, I promise. :-)
13th of September 2000Several things happened in the internet M.U.L.E. community which deserve to be mentioned. First of all, Toni Räsänen has released the complete source code of his M.U.L.E. clone to the public because he does not have time anymore to continue development. If you're interested in continuing his work, you should visit his site (see links page).
That leaves only two clones currently in development: M.U.L.E. 1.5 by Josh Day and Planeteer by Brainy Kid Software. From both I can say nothing more but that their development has not been discontinued. BKS was looking for additional programmers recently, so if you think you can help them, please visit their web site (see links page).
On the bright side of things, I have updated the official releases , missing in action and clones pages with lots of new interesting information about the various games.
I added some new files to the download page, mainly music files. For example, I stumbled upon a hilarious vocal (!) version of the M.U.L.E. title theme - you'll be rolling on the floor & laughing when you listen to it!
Finally, the trivia page has been updated. Sorry I didn't finish the emulation page yet - but it will be done, I promise. :-)
1st of July 2000David Tucker from the M*U*L*E* Web has programmed a small little M*U*L*E* Browser which offers hard-coded links to all the currently known M.U.L.E. sites and M.U.L.E. downloads. Compared to the ordinary browsers Netscape and Internet Explorer, it is incredibly small and loads very fast. If you want to have easy access to the various M.U.L.E. resources on the internet, you should definitely download it. Please visit David's site (see links page) for more details!
The non-working links on the download page have been fixed, and I have added four new files: A new MOD and a new MP3 of the title theme, a M.U.L.E. WinAmp skin and a single-voice MIDI file of the title theme which can be used as a ring indication with Nokia cellular phones. Besides, I added a link to Bernhard Goebl's web page on the links page. He wrote an editor for M.U.L.E. C64S savestates. I am currently working on the emulation section of this site - as soon as I have finished that, you will also find a detailed description of his program on this site.
I updated the official releases page with some more information on the NES and PC88 versions of M.U.L.E. Finally, I added a new M.U.L.E. review, written by someone called Richard. Of course, you can find it on the reviews page.

Just a small update today: I added two new M.U.L.E. sites to the links page and updated some outdated URLs.
I opened a new section, called Trivia . During the course of time, this page will be filled with all the miscellaneous tidbits, funny stories and personal experiences which do not fit on any other page. I started the page with adding Ashley Millard's "Ten Signs You're a M.U.L.E. Addict". Have fun reading it - maybe you find out that you're a M.U.L.E. addict! ;-)
At the same time, the opening of the trivia page marks the start of a little "contest" - send me your personal M.U.L.E. story! It may be funny, it may be melancholic, it may be extraordinary - whatever it may be, please send it to me by using this link . Of course, there's nothing to win but the honor that the story will be posted on this site!
At last, I found the time to update this site again. Lots of new things are to report: First of all, I could track down more info about the PCjr version of M.U.L.E., thanks to Travis J. McKay - thanks a lot, buddy! Read everything about it on the missing in action page. The two M.U.L.E. clones currently in development by Josh Day (M.U.L.E. 1.5) and Brainy Kid Software (Planeteer) did not show any progress or playable versions in the past four months unfortunately. On the other hand, another PC clone has surfaced, simply named M.U.L.E. The current version 0.51a is rather funny - you can read more about it on the clones page and download it in the download section (which has moreover been updated with the Amiga version of Subtrade, the Atari ST version of Colony, a rearrangement of the M.U.L.E. title theme as an MP3 and finally the XM version of the theme). The "review of the week" from Classicgaming.com has been added to the reviews page, and our tournament games table has been updated. The links have also been updated.
The clones page has been updated with some more recent info about the two current development projects (M.U.L.E. 1.5 and "Terra 2200", which has been renamed to Planeteer). Some preliminary info about a newly-discovered Atari ST clone has also been added (Thanks to Jack for supplying me with it). The Traders copy protection image has been added to the download section, so you can now play both the Amiga and PC versions. Joseph Fenton sent me some of his playing tips you can now read on the strategy page . Since I live in Mannheim, I began to play tournament games with local M.U.L.E. fans; the results of our games can also be seen on my tournament games page from now on. If you live in Mannheim or its vicinity and like to play with us, please contact me ! The M.U.L.E. 1.5 project page has been updated again, fixing some problems and adding some additional content.
I added the official homepage for Josh Day's project M.U.L.E. 1.5 to this site. Please visit it and give him some feedback! Nothing new is to report from the other clone project "Terra 2200". Thanks to Yohji Fuse and Jovial, I could add information about another official release of M.U.L.E. , namely for the Japanese computer system PC-8801 MKII. Finally, I updated our tournament games table, added the PC-8801 MKII version of M.U.L.E. and the Starcraft M.U.L.E. map to the download area and added a link to the TZ Colony homepage in the links section .
It seems that there are actually two M.U.L.E. clones currently in development: The already known "M.U.L.E. 1.5" by Josh Day (which is nearing completion) and a game currently called "Terra 2200". Alongside with changing the structure, I added some new resources to this site, for example scans of M.U.L.E.'s original game cover, some reviews in games magazines, more M.U.L.E. statistics and a Dani Bunten memorial page. I plan to add a M.U.L.E. message board soon. Besides, nothing much is to report. Josh Day is still working on his M.U.L.E. clone (current working title: "M.U.L.E. 1.5"), but I haven't heard from him since about two weeks. I'll post news about the project as soon as I get them.
